Redlands Coast businesses grow as lifestyle appeal drives confidence

Redlands Coast is quietly building a reputation as one of south-east Queensland’s most liveable – and increasingly business-ready – regions, according to new business insights from Redland City Council.

A snapshot survey of local small businesses reveals a community with confidence in its future, grounded in lifestyle appeal but facing familiar pressures as it grows. Most local enterprises are firmly small-scale, with more than half employing between two and 19 people, and notably, half have been operating for over a decade – evidence of a stable and resilient business base.

Optimism is also strong. Nearly two-thirds of businesses say they intend to expand, signalling a forward-looking mindset that aligns with broader economic growth across the region.

Yet beneath that confidence, challenges remain. Business owners point to rising costs, limited space to grow, and ongoing labour shortages as the biggest barriers to expansion. These constraints echo wider national trends but are felt keenly in a region balancing population growth with its prized coastal lifestyle.

Despite these hurdles, sentiment toward Redlands Coast remains overwhelmingly positive. A striking 86 per cent of respondents say it is a great place to live and work, while 70 per cent believe it is a strong place to do business. The region’s natural beauty, relaxed pace, and strong community spirit continue to underpin its appeal – not just for residents, but for entrepreneurs seeking lifestyle-driven opportunities.

However, the insights also highlight a gap in connection and support. Many businesses are not linked to formal networks such as chambers of commerce, and a significant proportion are actively seeking more guidance and services.

For Council, the message is clear: Redlands Coast has the ingredients for sustained economic growth, but unlocking its full potential will require stronger promotion, better business support, and targeted responses to workforce and infrastructure challenges.

As the region evolves, its story is one of balance – between growth and lifestyle, ambition and community – shaping a distinctive economic future on Brisbane’s doorstep.
