Known to the Quandamooka people as Teerk Roo Ra, the island has significant cultural importance and was traditionally used for ceremonial purposes. The island also played an important role in Queensland's history as a quarantine station, leper colony, and asylum. The surrounding waters are home to an abundance of marine life, including dolphins, dugongs, sea turtles, rays, and seasonal humpback whales during the winter migration months. Accessible only by watercraft. Guests are welcome to BYO food and beverages. 15 plus guests participating in water sports, additional charter time is recommended.
